Korea Reliability Testing Institute (KRT) Introduces New IP Dustproof & Waterproof Testing Equipment and Expands Services

Hello, this is the Korea Reliability Testing Institute (KRT).

We have newly introduced IP dust and water resistance testing equipment and have begun full-scale testing services.

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating test is a test that verifies, based on international standards, how safely a product is protected from dust and moisture.

The IP rating is indicated by a two-digit number, where the first digit represents dust resistance (grades 0–6) and the second digit represents water resistance (grades 0–9K).

For example, IP68 , commonly marked on smartphones, means complete dust blockage (Level 6) and water resistance that withstands prolonged immersion (Level 8), while IP6K9K , which is frequently applied to automotive parts, is the highest level of rating that guarantees durability even in high-temperature and high-pressure cleaning environments.

As such, IP ratings are an essential requirement prior to product launch in various fields, including electronics, automotive parts, and industrial equipment, and are directly linked to securing quality reliability and meeting global market entry requirements.

With the introduction of this equipment, we are now able to support the various IP rating tests required by our clients more quickly and accurately.

1. Major Equipment Introduced

Dust tester

Equipped with a large chamber and a precision control system, it can reliably evaluate dustproof performance against dust penetration.

It meets IP5X (dustproof) and IP6X (fully dustproof) rating tests and verifies under strict conditions whether fine dust penetrates the product interior.

Sprinkler (Waterproof) Tester & Immersion Tester

It precisely reproduces a real moisture penetration environment by utilizing spray nozzles at various angles, a rotary table, and an oscillating tube.

A wide range of waterproof rating tests are possible, from IPX1 (vertical drop) to IPX6 (powerful water jet), IPX7 (immersion under constant pressure), and IPX9K (high temperature and high pressure washing).

In particular, for the IPX7 immersion test, we are equipped with a dedicated immersion tester, allowing us to verify the product's waterproof performance in a immersion environment where specified depth and time conditions are precisely controlled.

2. Support Test Standards

• IEC 60529 : International standard test for enclosure seal protection class (IP Code).

• ISO 20653 : Protection Class (IP Code) Testing for Road Vehicles (including high-temperature and high-pressure washing tests)

• Others : Reliability testing for moisture penetration and humidity resistance according to customer specifications
