Promotion of technical exchange for securing replacements for discontinued parts (CGID) and ensuring the reliability of nuclear power plant facilities

Korea Reliability Testing Laboratory Co., Ltd. (hereinafter KRT) held a technical seminar organized by the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Human Resources Development Laboratory on the topics of securing replacements for discontinued parts and Commercial Grade Item Dedication (hereinafter CGID) related to the operation of nuclear power plant facilities.

This technical seminar was organized to address issues regarding the application of discontinued, substitute, and equivalent products that may arise during the long-term operation of nuclear power plant facilities, and to share quality verification systems and technical judgment criteria for applying commercial products to nuclear power plant facilities.
In particular, technical exchanges were conducted regarding CGID implementation procedures and practical considerations, focusing on the safety functions, essential characteristics, acceptance criteria, and verification methods of items required during the operation of nuclear power plant facilities.
CGID is a quality verification activity that identifies the essential characteristics required for a general commercial product not manufactured according to the nuclear quality assurance system to be applied to nuclear power plant facilities, and proves its conformity through testing, inspection, analysis, and documentation review.
This is an important verification procedure to address various technical issues arising at nuclear power plant operation sites, such as the replacement of discontinued parts, changes in the supply chain, changes in manufacturers, and the application of equivalent parts.
At this seminar, KRT shared practical content regarding the CGID approach for securing replacements for discontinued parts, criteria for selecting essential characteristics, item-specific verification strategies, test and inspection methods, and technical documentation review and acceptance criteria. Furthermore, it emphasized that to ensure the stable operation of nuclear power plant facilities and quality reliability, systematic verification considering the function and application environment of the relevant items is necessary, going beyond simply securing replacements.
KRT is a specialized testing and evaluation institution that verifies the quality reliability and technical conformity of various industrial products based on reliability testing, performance evaluation, environmental testing, and precision analysis.
In particular, based on our testing experience in the CGID and nuclear fields, we perform tasks such as the application of substitutes for nuclear power plant equipment and components, quality verification, technical review, and test evaluation, and provide objective and practical verification services required in the industrial field.
This technical seminar with the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) Human Resources Development Institute served as a meaningful platform for technical exchange, sharing expertise in nuclear power plant operation and quality verification, and strengthening capabilities for securing replacements for discontinued parts and performing CGID. KRT will continue to advance its professional testing and verification capabilities to support the safety, reliability, and sustainable operation of facilities in the nuclear industry.
